Scarlets: Liam Williams and James Davies are injury concerns

Wales international Liam Williams was injured as he attempted to stop Tom Bowe scoring a try in the 24-9 defeat by Ulster in Belfast.

Scarlets have injury worries over full-back Liam Williams and flanker James Davies for their crucial return Champions' Cup match with Ulster.

Williams has a shin injury and Davies sprained an ankle during the 24-9 defeat in Belfast on Saturday.

Scarlets are bottom of Pool 3, but coach Wayne Pivac is not counting out his side's chances.

"Hopefully we can turn it around and we certainly will be trying to do that," said the New Zealander.

Wales international Williams, 23, and Davies, 24, will be assessed by the medical team throughout the week.

Defending champions Toulon top Pool 3 in spite of going down to a 25-21 defeat against Leicester at Welford Road.

Former Scarlets fly-half Owen Williams kicked 20 points to secure a win which leaves the Tigers one point behind the French side in second place.

Speaking before the Tigers met Toulon, Pivac said he felt a win for Leicester "would open the pool right up" and give added importance to the return game against Ulster at Parc Y Scarlets on Sunday, 14 December.

However, he feels it is going to be difficult for any team which has already lost two matches - as Scarlets and Ulster have - to qualify for the knockout stages.

"There's a lot of other result to have a look at but I'll be surprised to be honest," he admitted.

However, Pivac believes there was not as much between Ulster and the Scarlets as the tally for four tries to nil would suggest.

The Welsh region conceded 14 points while they had players in the sin-bin, and failed to take advantage of the chances they created.

"They were very clinical in their finishing and we weren't," he said.

"We created quite a lot of opportunities but we didn't nail them, and that's what we've got to go away and have a look at."
