Cardiff Blues coach Paul John has joined co-caretaker Dale McIntosh in applying for the vacant director of rugby role at the region.
McIntosh and Paul John have been in charge since Mark Hammett's departure in February.
"Both of us have got to [go for the job]." said John.
Earlier McIntosh said: "I feel I don't want to go against Paul, but we've both had a chat and we're both going to put our names forward."
The former Pontypridd team-mates and coaches were in a similar position in the 2013-14 season after ex-Wales forward Phil Davies left as Blues' director of rugby in March, 2013.
Former New Zealand hooker Hammett succeeded Davies in the top role, but his tenure was also cut short.
John and McIntosh have pledged to keep the other involved if either of them is appointed to the boss' role.
"I'll be chuffed to bits if he gets it. If it works out for us, then we'll both be here next season," said John.
McIntosh added: "We'll look after each other but we also understand that they [Blues] want one person heading it up, therefore one person being accountable for what goes on here.
"If it's myself, it's myself, if it's Paul it's Paul, if it's someone else it's irrelevant to us."
Blues take on Ospreys at Millennium Stadium in the Pro12 on Saturday 10th in the table, six places and 31 points behind their west Wales rivals.
