Gateshead boss and Wrexham managerial target Gary Mills has been approached by a Football League club.

Wrexham held talks with Mills after having an official approach accepted by fellow Conference side Gateshead.

"There's another club who want to speak to me and the chairman has given them permission," he said.

"I seem to be wanted at the moment but I'm going to do my job and want to finish this season with a result at Barnet."

Gateshead finish their campaign on Saturday at Barnet, who will secure the Conference title with victory over Mills's side.

Mills, 53, led York City to the FA Trophy and promotion to the Football League in 2012 and took over the Tynesiders in September 2013.

Gateshead finished third in the Conference in 2013-14 and lost the play-off final 2-1 to Cambridge United.

Wrexham sacked Kevin Wilkin in March 2015. following their defeat to North Ferriby United in the FA Trophy final at Wrexham.

Carl Darlington, assisted by Michael Oakes and Lee Jones, have been in temporary charge of Wrexham since then.

"I've spoken to Wrexham and that's where we are at the moment," Mills added.

"I've had the chat with them and now I have to sit and decide whether it's right for me."
