Jazz Carlin's memorable 12 months in the pool have been recognised after she was named British Swimming Athlete of the Year for 2014.

Carlin, 24, became the first Welsh woman to win Commonwealth Games gold in the pool in 40 years at Glasgow 2014 with victory in the 800m freestyle.

She also won 400m and 800m freestyle golds at the European Championships.

"This year has been amazing, but I am working hard for 2015 and have set my sights on an Olympic spot," she said.

Carlin, who added a silver medal in the 800m freestyle at the World Short Course Championships in Doha to her medal haul, secured 78% of the public vote to collect the award.
