Nathan Cleverly 'agrees' Juergen Braehmer world title fight

Nathan Cleverly has won 28 of his 30 professional bouts

Former world champion Nathan Cleverly says he has "agreed" a deal to fight WBA light-heavyweight belt holder Juergen Braehmer.

The Welshman, 28, hopes to fight the German after his next fight, which could take place on 30 May against an unnamed opponent.

"Terms have been agreed," Cleverly told BBC Radio Wales Sport.

"It's just a matter of me getting this next fight out of the way and then we are going to make an announcement."

The bout against Braehmer will take place in Germany and Cleverly says he has no problems fighting in a hostile environment.

"I think I'll quite enjoy that, it will be good," he said.

"It will probably take that edge off, that pressure off, of the home crowd behind you, so it's just a matter of going out, being ready, being focused and ripping that title from him.

"I genuinely believe I'm going to do it."

Cleverly's defeat to Bellew was the Welshman's second professional career loss

Cleverly had moved up a division after losing his WBO light-heavyweight title to Sergey Kovalev in 2013.

He considered retiring after losing to cruiserweight Tony Bellew in November but has returned to light-heavyweight for a "fresh assault" on the division.

The New Tredegar fighter had been due to fight Braehmer in 2011 but it was cancelled after the German suffered an eye injury.

He says the change back to his original weight has gone well so far.

"It's going good, my head's on it," said Cleverly. "I feel focused, fit, ready, making the weight quite comfortably to be honest, it's coming down nice."
