Sochi 2014: Couple win medals within 10 minutes of each other

A husband and his wife won Winter Olympic medals within moments of each other on Wednesday.

Russia's Alena Zavarzina, 24, claimed bronze in the women's snowboarding parallel giant slalom 10 minutes before 27-year-old husband Vic Wild clinched gold in the men's event.

Wild was born in the United States but applied for Russian citizenship after marrying Zavarzina in 2011.

He won bronze for Russia at the 2013 World Championships.

"I'm very happy that Vic got gold," Zavarzina said of her husband. "This is what he worked for. He's so far from his hometown, he did an amazing job.

"He had to switch countries, switch nationality, accept something that some people would never accept.

"He has to deal with the Russian mentality, with stuff he's not used to, working with people who don't understand him most of the time."
