  1. NZ 1-1published at 2 overs

    Target 176

Rachin Ravindra gets New Zealand going from the 11th delivery of the innings, knocking Brydon Carse's delivery into the covers and running a quick single.

Not a bad start from England, but the hosts still need just 3.64 runs an over.

  2. Not outpublished at 1 over

    NZ 0-1

Passing over the stumps - England lose the review.

Still, it's a wicket maiden for Jofra Archer.

  3. England reviewpublished at 1 over

    Two in the over?

England are hunting the wicket of Kane Williamson, with Jofra Archer striking the new batter's back pad as he pushes forward.

Nothing from the umpire, likely because It looks a little high, but England need wickets in short order so they're going to chance a review.

    Young lbw b Archer 0 (NZ 0-1)

Jofra Archer in the action straight away - he dismisses Will Young with his fourth ball!

The England seamer wastes no time cranking up the pace, and he absolutely cuts Young in half with a rapid delivery.

One ball later and he has the wicket, striking the back pad of the New Zealand opener and not even bothering to look round as the umpire's finger goes up - that's bang in front.

    Thanks Matt.

Unsurprisingly WinViz has New Zealand as firm favourites.

Jofra Archer, playing his first ODI against New Zealand since the 2019 World Cup final, takes the first over for England.

If you're continuing to Wellington, Oli, then there's a pie shop in the city that'll make the whole trip worthwhile. Trust me.

The players are back out so it's time for me to hand you to Mike Peter...

It’s a good job New Zealand is such a beautiful country to make this trip down under worthwhile because we have played some bang average cricket in these ODI’s.

The collapse was not as dramatic as in Mount Maunagnui.

Ben Duckett was out for one but Jamie Smith, Jacob Bethell, Joe Root, Harry Brook all made double figures before getting out.

Root was maybe a little unlucky to be caught down the leg side.

Jamie Smith sliced a catch to point aiming somewhere over mid-wicket. Bethell pulled straight to deep square leg. Even Brook slashed a cut to backward point having looked good.

    Sloppy.

I gave England a bit of a pass the other day because conditions in the first ODI were tough. This is far harder to justify.

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 36 overs

Rashid c Bracewell b Tickner 9 (Eng 175 all out)

All over. Michael Bracewell takes a smart catch above his head at mid-wicket as Adil Rashid pulls Balir Tickner.

Tickner finishes with 4-34, England all out for 175 in 36 overs. A mess.

Adil Rashid! He must have learned to do this when scoring those 10 first-class hundreds...

Unnerving perhaps, but no need to panic. It’s early spring in New Zealand, pitches and weather will be ideal for the top six. Geoff Boycott and Graham Gooch will blunt the bowlers and build a solid, if slow foundation...In fact, panic!

  14. Eng 168-9published at 34 overs

    Archer 2, Rashid 2

England are using this series to help some of their fast bowlers, including Jofra Archer, build back into rhythm and fitness before the Ashes. It doesn't look like they're going to score enough runs for Archer to get a second spell.

That will be an overlooked consequence of this batting performance.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 33.1 overs

    Overton c Santner b Tickner 42 (Eng 165-9)

    That will be that.

Jamie Overton decides he has to try and add more quick runs but only manages to sky a catch to mid-off. This is a sorry performance from England.

  16. Eng 165-8published at 33 overs

    Overton 42, Archer 1

Mitchell Santner completes a maiden quicker than you can say 'another England batting collapse'.

  17. Eng 165-8published at 32 overs

I wondered if England would send out Adil Rashid to knock singles for five or six overs in support of Jamie Overton but Jofra Archer is in.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 31.5 overs

    Carse c Mitchell b Tickner 3 (Eng 164-8)

    This is not pretty.

Yes, it's the England way. Yes, it's a white-ball game and you need to score runs. But Brydon Carse has swung a short ball straight into the hands of deep square leg to add to England's woe.

Jamie Overton has been equally impressive against both pace and spin this series. He is striking at 104 v pace and 114 vs spin.
