BBC Sport 2012 advent calendar - memorable sporting moments

BBC Sport have created a video advent calendar for the Festive season, celebrating the highlights of the past sporting year.

Here are thrills, spills, races, chases, crashes and splashes from a truly memorable last 12 months.

Day 1

To kick off, watch Stephan Feck of Germany exiting the men's 3m springboard Olympic diving competition with calamitous effort in the second preliminary round.

His foot appears to slip off the side of the diving board and he enters the water on his back, before being awarded a failed dive.

Day 2

For our second entry, watch MotoGP rider Nicky Hayden losing control of his Ducati during the Aragon MotoGP, crashing into a wall and being propelled over the top.

The 2006 world champion was later taken to the circuit's medical centre but returned to action the following month in Japan.

Day 3

On day three, watch seven-time world snooker champion Stephen Hendry making an impressive 147 maximum break against Stuart Bingham in the first-round of the 2012 World Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.

Day 4

It's day four of BBC Sport's advent calendar and the star of today's show is 4ft 11ins (152cm) Yun Chol Om of North Korea.

Watch Yun Chol Om, external set a new Olympic record in the clean and jerk in the men's 56kg weightlifting category - lifting 168kg - three times his own body weight.

Day 5

Day five of BBC Sport's advent calendar is a celebration of Finnish Formula 1 driver Kimi Raikkonen's ice-cold attitude over the team radio during his victory at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Watch Kimi Raikkonen pull no punches when speaking to his team during the race, telling them: "Leave me alone, I know what I'm doing."

Day 6

The sixth entry into BBC Sport's advent calendar reveals the risks of attending top-flight football without a raincoat. Watch as a faulty sprinkler by the side of the Anfield pitch gives several Liverpool fans a drenching during half-time in the Premier League match against Newcastle.

Day 7

Seven winners for day seven of BBC Sport's advent calendar as the Formula 1 season set a new record for different race winners in its opening seven races.

Jenson Button,Fernando Alonso,Nico Rosberg,Sebastian Vettel,Pastor Maldonado,Mark Webber and Lewis Hamilton were all on the top step of the podium in a competitive F1 campaign.

Day 8

The eighth day of BBC Sport's advent calendar gives you the gift of gymnastic excellence in the form of Epke Zonderland of the Netherlands. Watch Zonderland stunning the North Greenwich Arena crowd as he wins Olympic gold on the high bar.

Day 9

Day 10

We're celebrating one of the goals of the year on day 10 of BBC Sport's advent calendar, or rather pundit Steve Claridge's reaction to it.

The former striker is left stunned in the BBC Radio 5 live studio after watching Papiss Cisse score for Newcastle in their 2-0 win at Chelsea in May.

Day 11

Time for one of the year's most unlikely heroes on day 11 of BBC Sport's 2012 advent calendar.

Niger rower Hammadou Djibo Issaka wins the hearts of GB rowing fans at Eton Dorney as he struggled to the finishing line in the men's single sculls at the Olympic regatta.

Day 13

On day 13, BBC Sport's advent calendar takes a look at some of the opening-lap incidents involving Romain Grosjean in 2012.

In 15 races this season, the Lotus driver was involved in seven first-lap, and one second-lap, incidents.

Day 15 of the advent calendar reveals Dan Walker, Martin Keown and Mark Lawrenson dealing with an unexpected fire alarm during Football Focus.

Day 16

It's day 16 of the advent calendar and we remember the moment when David Nalbandian injured a Queen's line judge by kicking an advertising board into his shin.

The Argentine was disqualified from the Aegon Championships final after reacting angrily when he dropped his serve in the second set.

Day 17 of the advent calendar reveals the moment James Bond met her Majesty the Queen.

Her unexpected entrance at the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games was one of the big talking points of the summer - aside from the action.

Day 18

It's day 18 of the advent calendar and here is possibly the goal of the year by South African footballer Portia Modise in the women's Olympic football tournament.

Modise collects the ball in her own half before a short run and audacious lob that catches Sweden goalkeeper Hedvig Lindahl out in the London 2012 group encounter in Coventry.

Day 19

On day 19 of BBC Sport's advent calendar we remember the inauspicious start to Europe's Ryder Cup singles battle in October as Rory McIlroy has to dash to make his tee time after a mix-up with his alarm clock.

The world number one went on to win his singles match with Keegan Bradley as Europe staged a remarkable comeback to win by a single point.

Day 20

Another memorable moment from London 2012, but this time it's despair rather than elation as Mark Hunter has to be helped to his feet by Sir Steve Redgrave after he and partner Zac Purchase narrowly missed out on defending their title in the men's lightweight double sculls.

Day 21 of BBC Sport's advent calendar sees Southampton mascot Sammy Saint entertain the crowd at half-time during the 1-1 draw with Norwich with his own rendition of Psy's 'Gangnam Style'.

Day 22

Day 22 of the advent calendar returns to the Olympics where BBC basketball commentator Mike Carlson gets hit by a ball whilst commentating.

Although the incident was not caught on camera, there is no doubting he takes a full hit on the head...ouch!

Day 23

Day 23 of the advent calendar reveals Blackburn fans releasing a chicken on to the Ewood Park pitch during the club's 1-0 defeat by Wigan in the Premier League.

The stunt was a protest against the club's owners Venky's - an Indian company that specialises in chicken meat processing.

Day 24

The final day of the advent calendar reveals BBC pundits going wild during Mo Farah's victory in the 10,000m at London 2012.
