Katarina Johnson-Thompson has pulled out of the Great Britain team for the European Championships in Zurich.

She was due to compete in the long jump but has failed to recover from the foot injury that ruled her out of the Commonwealth Games.

British Athletics said her withdrawal was based on "taking the longer-term view rather than short-term risk".

The 21-year-old posted the highest heptathlon score of the year with a personal best 6,682 points in June.

Long jumper Shara Proctor and triple jumper Phillips Idowu have also pulled out of the championships with injury.

Dai Greene failed to achieve the qualifying standard for the 400m hurdles and has been replaced by Seb Rodger, but Mo Farah is due to compete in the 5,000m and 10,000m.

Javelin thrower Goldie Sayers has been named as the Great Britain team captain for the event, which gets underway on Tuesday.
