Island Games 2015: Jersey's Constable wins badminton medals

Mark Constable, who won Commonwealth Games team gold in 2002, was playing in his first Island Games

Jersey's Mark Constable twice got the better of the Faroe Islands to win badminton medals at the Island Games.

He beat Niclas Eysturoy 21-9 21-12 to win the gold medal in the singles.

Constable had earlier won bronze as he teamed up with Alex Hutchings to beat Aksel Poulsen and Niclas Eysturoy 21-16 21-16 in the doubles final.

Chloe Le Tissier took bronze for Guernsey in the women's singles as she beat Jersey's experienced Kerry Coombs-Goodfellow 21-15 21-16.

Guernsey's Charlotte Barnes and Matthew Haynes won bronze in the mixed doubles.

Channel Islands strike golf gold

The golf has been played in scenic conditions across several days

Jersey's Flora Keites won gold and silver as the golf medals were decided.

She was part of a victorious quartet in the ladies' team event, along with Hannah Scriven, Frances Shaw and Jennifer Deeley, who also took bronze in the individual competition.

Guernsey's Aimee Ponte claimed individual gold to complete an all Channel Island podium, while she also finished third in the team event alongside Di Aitchison, Veronica Bougourd and Kay Mapley.

Robert Eggo was the most successful Channel Islander in the men's golf, taking bronze individually and winning silver with the Guernsey team also featuring Daniel Blondel, Andrew Eggo and Steve Mahy.

Jersey's Gavin O'Neill claimed the silver medal in the individual classification.

Torode and Littleton duel for medals

In the service pistol B event Andy Torode took his first shooting gold medal for Guernsey, with Jersey's Mark Littleton having to settle for silver having already won two golds at the Games.

Littleton got the better of his nemesis in the police pistol 1 event, again claiming silver while Torode took the bronze medal and Littleton won the gold medal in the police pistol 2.

After a silver and two bronzes at the Games, Guernsey's Jacek Hanca finally added a coveted gold to his collection by winning the 25m centrefire event.

Meanwhile both Guernsey's basketball teams missed out on a medal at the hands of Gibraltar.

Guernsey's women, who were aiming for a medal for the the first time since 2009, went down 52-48 to the side they beat for their only gold medal in 2003.

"I'm devastated to lose in the bronze medal play-off," captain Gemma Batiste told BBC Radio Guernsey.

The men, who were aiming for a first-ever Island Games podium finish, lost their bronze play-off 66-57 in an ill-tempered encounter at Fort Regent.
