Isle of Man Sports Awards: Call to nominate athletes for achievements
- Published
People are being asked to put sporting stars forward for the Isle of Man's annual sport awards.
The event celebrates the achievements of local athletes both on the island and further afield.
Last year saw equestrian's Yasmin Ingham secure the Sportswoman of the Year title for the third time in four years, while road racer Conor Cummins was awarded Sportsman of the Year.
The winners will be announced at the Villa Marina in Douglas on 28 February.
Those nominated for the awards must be Manx-born or have lived on the island for at least two years to be eligible.
Executive chairman of event organisers Isle of Man Sport, Sarah Corlett, said the ceremony would be "a fitting way to celebrate the many achievements of the island's athletes" as well as those involved in coaching and officiating.
"We're very fortunate to have such a talented and supportive sporting community and the awards not only recognise those competing but those that help them to achieve," she added.
The categories are:
Sportsman of the Year
Sportswoman of the Year
IOM Sports Ambassador
Under-21 Sportsman of the Year
Under-21 Sportswoman of the Year
Disability Sportsperson of the Year
Veteran Sportsperson of the Year
Sports Administrator of the Year
Sports Coach of the Year
Sports Team of the Year
Lifetime Achievement
The Leonie Cooil Courage & Inspiration Award
Education, Sport and Culture Minister Julie Edge said the "achievements, dedication and commitment" shown by the island's athletes, teams, volunteers, coaches and officials would "make shortlisting a difficult job".
"It was fabulous to see so many Manx athletes performing at such a high level this year and, in many cases, taking on the world's best."
The period for nominations to be made closes on 21 December.
