European Archery: Belfast man Patrick Huston helps GB into final in Nottingham

Belfast man Patrick Huston has helped Great Britain ensure at least a silver medal in the men's recurve team event at the European Archery Championships.

Huston and his British team-mates Larry Godrey and Kieran Slater will face Russia in Sunday's final in Nottingham after beating Belgium 6-0 on Wednesday.

GB were not expected to win a medal as they went into the event ranked 13th.

Former world junior champion Huston, 20, is hoping to qualify for the individual event at the Rio Olympics.

Huston will compete in upcoming qualifying events as he chases a Rio spot.

The first of these qualifiers will take place in Nottingham on Thursday and Friday although there will be further opportunities to clinch a Rio place at two competitions in Turkey next month.

Huston requires a top-three finish in this week's European qualifier to secure a Rio berth although he must negotiate two initial rounds on Thursday and Friday to be among the 16 going through to the knockout stages.

The Northern Irishman is currently 92nd in the world rankings.
