Jersey cyclist Jacob Mauger capped off an excellent 2025 Island Games as he won bronze in the men's criterium and helped the island take team gold.

Mauger - who previously won two mountain bike team golds and was second in the cross country - was third in a sprint finish around the streets of Kirkwall.

It meant Jersey finished second in the medals table below the Faroe Islands with 30 golds, 25 silvers and 20 bronze medals, one place ahead of Channel Island rivals Guernsey.

Menorca's gold medal winner Aaron Genestar Sanchez finished just ahead of the Isle of Man's Tyler Hannay, with Mauger a second behind.

Team-mate Tom Huelin was just behind him in fourth, while Ollie Cadin was seventh and Sam Nisbet eighth as they all finished in the leading pack.

The Jersey results meant they were the top team ahead of silver medallists Isle of Man and the Isle of Wight, who won bronze.

"I didn't really expect it, but mountain biking yesterday must have done the legs some good," Mauger told BBC Radio Jersey.

"It's probably up there with one of the best weeks.

"It was a lot of fun with the team, a really good atmosphere, the Jersey team is amazing."

Jersey's footballers threw away a 2-1 lead as they lost their bronze medal play-off match 3-2 to the Isle of Man.

Having conceded twice in extra time on Thursday night to lose 3-2 to Bermuda in the semi-finals, Jersey started well on Friday as Sam Nixon put them ahead early on.

The Manxmen equalised only for Robert Martins-Figueira to restore the lead, but an Isle of Man penalty made it 2-2 at half time before they added a second-half winner.

Meanwhile, Jersey's squash players won team bronze, having earlier picked up three doubles medals.

The team of Matthew Boote, Beth Garton, Antony Harkin, Amelie Turpin, Susan Turpin and William Turpin came third in the round robin event behind the gold medal-winning Cayman Islands and Orkney, who took silver.

"The outcome has been much better than I expected at the beginning of the week. We've excelled really," Susan Turpin told BBC Radio Jersey

"We've really bonded as a team, mixed ages, mixed interests, it's been quite fun."
