The New Saints will be looking to take a huge step towards becoming the first domestic Welsh club to reach the group stages of a European club competition.

Saints are in the Europa Conference League play-offs and victory over two legs would see them reach the group stages.

The Cymru Premier champions are away to Lithuanian side FK Panevėžys in the first leg on Thursday.

Midfielder Leo Smith said it was an opportunity to “create history for the club and ourselves".

Saints lost 1-0 on aggregate to Moldovan team Petrocub in the Europa League third qualifying round.

Despite defeat, Craig Harrison’s side have dropped into the Europa Conference League.

“After the disappointment of last week, we have to pick ourselves up and make sure we put in a positive performance,” Smith told BBC Radio Cymru.

“Hopefully we can get the right result to take home next week.

“We have to make sure we play our game like we do in the league and the way we did at home against Decic.

“We’re really looking forward now.”
