Williams hopes to keep 'gems' at Swansea

Luke Williams says Swansea City need to retain some of the soon to be out-of-contract "gems" they have within their squad.
A significant number of players, including Joe Allen, Jamie Paterson, Liam Cullen and Liam Walsh, see their current deals with the club expire following the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.
But head coach Williams also admits the club need to recruit well if they are to successfully deploy the style of play he hopes to utilise during his tenure as boss.
"We have to look seriously at retaining some of the gems and a few fine wines in there," he said at a fans' forum.
"We need to consider their futures and then be very accurate about who comes in.
"They have to be the right people and that is exciting, it is potentially a brilliant opportunity to bring in a more Swansea looking group of people to make the reality we want on the grass."
And on the contracts of striker Cullen and midfielder Allen specifically, Williams said: "We’ve got an option on Liam. We have at least one more year with him, but hopefully many more.
"Joe Allen's situation is different. We’re going to speak to him as well.
"He’s come back from injury and hit the ground running. He’s in really good form."
