Liverpool have appointed Richard Hughes as the club's new sporting director.
Hughes, 44, will begin his new role when he leaves his position as Bournemouth technical director at the end of the season.
He will succeed Jorg Schmadtke who left the club at the end of the January transfer window, having been appointed on a short-term basis in June.
One of his first tasks will be to identify and recruit a successor to manager Jurgen Klopp, who will step down at the end of the campaign.
Hughes' appointment comes a week after former Reds sporting director Michael Edwards was named chief executive of football of Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group.
The pair know each other well form their time at Portsmouth, when Hughes was club captain and Edwards a club analyst.
Edwards joined Liverpool in 2011 and became sporting director in 2016 before leaving the club in summer 2022.
His new role at FSG will include a restructure of football operations at Liverpool as well as helping to identify and subsequently manage a second club.
