Facing a side who had won their last 11 consecutive games at home, this was always going to be a difficult task for Luton.
They went into it buoyed by their fight back from two-goals down against Nottingham Forest in their previous outing to draw 2-2.
Similarly battling qualities did materialise in the final couple of minutes of this game but by then it was too little too late.
Luton could perhaps have been more adventurous - failing to manage a shot on goal until the hour mark - but this was another reminder of just how difficult it is in the Premier League.
