Scottish Athletics has named the athletes on its Commonwealth Games training squad list for 2012.

While the body says its focus is on the Glasgow 2014 Games, it also insists the selection is with one eye on the 2018 Games in the Gold Coast.

With that in mind, 14 of the 41 athletes named are teenagers.

Chief executive Nigel Holl said: "There is great talent there and some have aspirations for London 2012 before even starting to countdown to Glasgow."

Four of the youngsters selected featured at the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Isle of Man in September, sprinters Tom Holligan and Zoey Clark, discus thrower Nick Percy, and 16-year-old hammer thrower Kimberley Reed.

"With so many teenagers involved, we are also looking into the future - towards 2016, 2017 and 2018," said Holl.

"The performances at the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Isle of Man demonstrated some of the burgeoning ability in our young athletes."

Perhaps the most high-profile name on the list is 2002 Commonwealth Games 400m silver-medallist Lee McConnell, while Steph Twell and Freya Murray are named after returning from injury.

Hurdler Eilidh Child and youngsters Eilish McColgan and Lynsey Sharp are other notable female athletes on the list.

The men's list however, provides less in the way of household names, with marathon runner Andrew Lemoncello perhaps the best-known in a squad of mainly younger athletes.
