Tom Druce has become the first person from Guernsey to break the seven-second barrier for the 60m.

Druce, 26, ran 6.88 seconds at the Windsor Open meeting, beating Dale Garland's record of 7.00 set in 2005.

He could go even faster at this month's South of England Championships.

"When you look at the people that Tom was against, to run 60m at that speed he's obviously got a layer of speed that he didn't used to have," said Paul Ingrouille from Guernsey Athletics.

"He's a very explosive athlete and is going to bring his 200m time down significantly," Ingrouille added to BBC Guernsey.
