Katie Kirk wins bronze medal in 800m at British Indoors

Northern Ireland athlete Katie Kirk secured a bronze medal in the 800m at the British Indoor Athletics Championships in Sheffield.

The 20-year-old, who carried the torch at the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony, ran a strong second half of the race to record a time of 2.06.76.

That was just outside the Holywood girl's personal best of 2.06.23 which she set in finishing third in her heat.

The race was won by Scotland's Laura Muir, the number one in the world.

Kirk finished ahead of former European indoor champion Jenny Meadows.

Meanwhile Commonwealth Games-bound Zoe Brown also produced an impressive pole vault display as she also took a bronze medal.

The Raheny Shamrocks athlete produced a season's best of 4.16 metres to win bronze for the second successive year.

Lisburn athlete Amy Foster was in top form in the 60m, recording times of 7.36 seconds and 7.35 seconds in her heats before excelling with a fourth placed finish in the final.

Her time of 7.33 seconds equals her personal best time set in the Irish Championships a year ago.

Foster is now a mere 0.01 seconds shy of the qualification mark for the World Indoor Championships.

Annadale's Paul Pollock battled his way to sixth place in the 3000m, setting a new personal best by over 12 seconds at 8.09.54.
