Double Olympic champion Mo Farah made a winning return to the track in a low-key 5,000m race in Portland on Sunday.

The Briton, who was eighth in his last race, the London Marathon in April, won in 13 minutes, 23.42 seconds.

"It's nice to be back on the track." Farah, 31, said. "Early on I felt all right. It's just when I was out front I wasn't really doing any damage."

The Londoner will compete for England in the 5,000m and 10,000m at this summer's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Farah is also the defending world champion over both distances.

He broke Steve Cram's 28-year-old 1500m British record last year before turning his attention to the marathon.

Farah added: "My aim was to just run a good race here. I wasn't thinking too much about time."

He is scheduled to run in a special event at the Diamond League meeting in Glasgow on 12 July,, external with the Commonwealth Games commencing 11 days later.

Farah said: "That will be the first big one to test myself. Against all the big guys, hopefully,"

Farah, who will face stiff competition from Kenyan and Ugandan athletes at the Commonwealth Games, finished ninth in the 5,000m at the 2006 Games in Melbourne but withdrew from the 2010 Games in Delhi because of fatigue.
