Jo Pavey, 40, could race at 2018 Commonwealth Games

England's Jo Pavey will not rule out racing at the next Commonwealth Games, in Australia in 2018.

The 40-year-old, who won 5,000m bronze in Glasgow last week, says competing for four more years would have to work for all of her family.

"I am going to be quite old by then, but I'm not ruling anything out at this stage," the 2012 European Championships silver medallist told BBC Sport.

"It would have to work for us as a family - and I've got to qualify."

Pavey, who has two young children, is preparing to compete in the 5,000m and 10,000m at the European Championships in Zurich next week.

The Devon athlete races in the 10,000m final on Tuesday, 12 August - just 10 days after her Commonwealth Games final.

"A lot of my rivals, having not done the Commonwealth Games, are going to be potentially fresher and will be able to put in the training they want to nearer the race," she said.

"I'm trying to balance recovery, but also get some training in, and that's quite a difficult balance in order to get ready for that championship.

"Because the Commonwealth Games was an extremely important race, I had a long phase where I eased off to be ready, at the time where I would normally be bashing in the training and training really hard.

"It does take a bit of planning because you know how to get ready for one championships, but getting ready for two is quite tricky."
