Scots Lynsey Sharp and Eilidh Child won their respective semi-finals at the European Championships in Zurich.

Child's 54.71secs run secured her a place in Saturday's 400m hurdles final.

And Sharp, bidding to defend her title, was fastest in her 800m semi-final in two minutes, 1.32secs. The final of that event is also on Saturday.

"I felt good, I got out strong as normal, no-one pushed it on but I tried to stay calm and just ran my own race," Sharp said.

Sharp eased away from Russia's Yekaterina Poistogova, who finished second, and Great Britain team-mate Jessica Judd finished third.

"It makes a massive difference running confidently," added the 24-year-old Scot.

"I've raced Jess a few times this year and I looked across with 300m to go and thought it would be really nice if we could both get through."

Both Child and Sharp won silver medals at the recent Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
