Ennis-Hill and Johnson-Thompson face tough Great CityGames tests

Jessica Ennis-Hill has enjoyed past success in the GreatCity Games

Heptathletes Jessica Ennis-Hill and Katarina Johnson-Thompson will come up against British European champions in next month's Great CityGames.

Olympic gold medallist Ennis-Hill will be competing for the first time since giving birth to son Reggie last July.

The 29-year-old lines up in the 100m hurdles against Tiffany Porter.

Johnson-Thompson, 22, competes against Scotland's Eilidh Child in the 200m hurdles on a purpose-built track in Manchester's Deansgate.

Ennis-Hill and British record-holder Porter, who won 100m hurdles gold at the European Championships in Zurich last August, will also race against world champion Brianna Rollins of the United States and rising British prospect Lucy Hatton.

Johnson-Thompson broke Ennis-Hill's British record in taking pentathlon gold at the European Indoor Championships in Prague in March. She will face European 400m hurdles champion Child in front of an expected crowd of 25,000 in Manchester.

Ennis-Hill's last competitive appearance came in the Anniversary Games in London in July 2013, when she finished fourth in the 100m hurdles.

The Sheffield athlete is set compete against Johnson-Thompson in the heptathlon in Gotzis at the end of May. They are also due to meet at the World Championships in Beijing in August.

The Great CityGames will be held on 9 May and will be shown live on BBC One and BBC One HD from 13:00 - 15:00.
