Ennis-Hill to decide on World Championships bid after games

Jessica Ennis-Hill says she will decide whether to compete at the World Championships in Beijing next month after her performances at the Anniversary Games in London.

Ennis-Hill, 29, has hardly competed since winning Olympic gold in 2012 but will take part in three events on 24-25 July, back in the Olympic Stadium.

"I'm definitely getting closer to where I need to be," she told BBC Sport.

Ennis-Hill will compete in the 100m hurdles, long jump and 200m.

She missed the 2013 World Championships in Moscow through injury and then missed the whole 2014 season as she had a son, Reggie.

Having already qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics and this summer's World Championships, Ennis-Hill hopes to compete in the heptathlon in Beijing at the end of August - but says she will only travel if she can compete for a medal.

She said: "In my mind I know what shape I need to be in to compete and contend for a medal at the Worlds and I have a target for this weekend.

"I hope to have the performances I am looking for in London and can go and compete for a medal in Beijing. Or, I hope that I know on Saturday night that I am not going to be in a position to compete and I don't push on to the Worlds when I'm not quite ready.

"Nothing is guaranteed in sport but I don't want to travel all that way and not medal or perform to my best. If I'm not quite ready the best thing would be to have a break and get ready for winter training."

In May, Ennis-Hill competed in her first heptathlon since London 2012 and admits it is "quite scary" to be closer to the end of her career, with younger British rivals Katarina Johnston-Thompson and Morgan Lake making the discipline "strong domestically".

Ennis-Hill's fellow London gold medallists Mo Farah, Usain Bolt and Greg Rutherford are all also competing at the Anniversary Games.
