Britain's newly-crowned world 10,000m champion Mo Farah is unsure whether people appreciate how hard he has worked for his many career successes.

Should Farah, 32, win the 5,000m on Saturday he would be the first athlete to win the two world distance titles either side of an Olympic double.

Farah said: "I don't blame people, they don't see what it takes.

"I wish people were there to see you when you're on the floor having done back-to-back runs or at high altitude."

The Londoner has had a difficult season after doping allegations emerged involving his coach Alberto Salazar.

There is no suggestion that Farah has been involved in doping and Salazar denies the claims.

Farah's major gold medals

Olympic (2): 5,000m & 10,000m in 2012

World (4): 5,000m in 2011 & 2013; 10,000m in 2013 & 2015

European (5): 5,000m in 2010, 2012 & 2014; 10,000m in 2010 & 2014

But Farah, who will start heats for the 5,000m in Beijing on Wednesday, also hinted that it might not be until after his career that his greatness is acknowledged.

The avid Arsenal fan added: "When you step off the track and then you look back, then you kind of think that was great.

"Like in football, the years when Manchester United had Gary Neville, David Beckham and Ryan Giggs. They were the greatest, they were unbeatable, when you look back at it.

"Like Arsenal with Dennis Bergkamp, Ian Wright, all these guys, you look back and they were legends - or Real Madrid with Zinedine Zidane or Ronaldo.

"In everything we do, when it's gone, then you look back and learn."
