Great Scottish Run: Moses Kipsiro & Edna Kiplagat win half marathon

Moses Kipsiro has won three Commonwealth gold medals to date

Uganda's Moses Kipsiro fought off the challenge of Scotland's Callum Hawkins and Kenya's Japhet Korir to win the 34th Great Scottish Run in Glasgow.

Kilbarchan's Hawkins, 23, and World Cross Country champion Korir, 22, pushed the three-time Commonwealth champion for most of the half marathon.

But Kipsiro, 29, won in one hour two minutes 18 seconds - 24 seconds ahead of Hawkins, who ran a personal best.

Kenya's Edna Kiplagat successfully defended her women's title in 1:08:21.

Her compatriot Doris Changeiywo crossed second in 1:09:50 and England's Gemma Steel was six seconds further back in third, as she held off the challenge of 42-year-old Jo Pavey - who ran 1:09:58 to set the fastest time ever by an over-40 British woman.

Hawkins, who was 14 seconds short of the Scottish record, finished six places ahead of his 26-year-old brother Derek and both will compete in this month's Frankfurt marathon.

"For us both to run well today was brilliant," the runner-up told BBC Sport.

"To have your brother next to you pushing you on benefits you, it's just brilliant.

Edna Kiplagat eased to victory as she defended her half marathon title

"I was here to prove my fitness going in to Frankfurt so I just need to take care of my self until then. The marathon can be a completely different animal to a half marathon."
