Guernsey's Alastair Chalmers missed out on the British 400m hurdles title for the first time this decade.
The 25 year-old was edged out by 0.02 seconds by Tyri Donovan, who won in a time of 49.18 secs.
Chalmers had won won every British title since 2020 and reached the semi-finals at last summer's Olympic Games.
But his second place does confirm his place at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo next month.
Chalmers ran a personal best of 48.30 in Germany last month to gain the qualification time.
