Guernsey runner Megan Chapple has broken the island women's marathon record.

Chapple finished as the 21st woman in the Gold Coast Marathon in Australia in a time of 2 hrs 49 mins and 14 secs.

It broke Louise Perrio's previous best mark, set at the Frankfurt Marathon in October 2017, by 45 seconds.

Chapple narrowly missed Perrio's time at the 2023 London Marathon when she finished in a time of 2:50:33

"I'm very happy that I've now got the Guernsey all-time record," she told BBC Radio Guernsey.

"Going into the race, though, I knew what the record was and it was definitely a bit of a goal after I ran the London Marathon two years ago because I was about 30 seconds off the time back then.

"I was really gunning for it this time and the Gold Coast Marathon is a really fast course, so I knew that I could potentially put a bit of time into it if everything went well."
