Rutherford and Tomlinson debate British record ratification

Olympic gold medallist Greg Rutherford is confident that his British long jump record of 8.51m will be ratified by UK Athletics.

Rutherford set the record in San Diego in April, external at the Olympic Training Centre in California. The jump was verified by USA Track and Field but has since been questioned by rival Chris Tomlinson, who says that he was "stuck between a rock and a hard place" in deciding whether or not to protest.

Rutherford who "can't really think of any way that it won't be ratified" added that "if it wasn't it would just be a matter of doing it again."

UK Athletics is due to make a ruling in mid-May on whether the controversial record will stand.
