Archive: Emanuel Steward fears for the future of boxing
Boxing trainer Emanuel Steward, the owner of the legendary Kronk Gym and a trainer for boxers including Thomas Hearns, Evander Holyfield and Oscar De La Hoya, died on Thursday at the age of 68.
Steward spoke to BBC Sport in April about his concern for the future of the sport because of a shortage of potential big fights to excite fans.
He also recalled the negotiations that took place to match up Sugar Ray Leonard with his fighter Tommy Hearns, ahead of the 25-year anniversary of Leonard's fight with Marvin Hagler.
