Tommy Langford: The boy who came to Birmingham to fight
Devon boxer Tommy Langford, who fights in Dublin on Saturday night for the vacant WBO intercontinental middleweight title, reveals it was a sparring session with Birmingham's Frankie Gavin which inspired him to relocate to the Midlands.
He studied sports science at Birmingham University and joined Hall Green Boxing Club - and, having gone unbeaten in 12 professional fights, it has so far paid off.
"I'm very glad I came to university." he told BBC Midlands Today's Nick Clitheroe. "It was instilled in me from a very young age that education was important and to pursue it to the maximum. The degree will stand me in good stead in the future."
