Ashes 2013: Alastair Cook praises 'outstanding' Joe Root after Test win

England captain Alastair Cook praises team-mate Joe Root as an "outstanding player" after he followed up an innings of 180 by taking two Australian wickets in a rare spell of bowling.

Root's success helped England to a 347-run victory at Lord's to take a 2-0 lead in the series and tighten their grip on the Ashes, with Cook happy that England "upped their game" after being under pressure.

The resounding victory, England's third biggest in terms of runs, puts Alastair Cook's team in a commanding position from which to win their third Ashes series in a row.
