The Ashes: Australia's Steve Smith praises Brad Haddin

All-rounder Steve Smith says he took "a back seat" to the "brilliant" Brad Haddin as the pair's 128 partnership helped Australia recover to make 326 on the first day of the fifth Ashes Test.

The pair came together with Australia at 97-5, but Haddin's sixth half-century of the series and Smith's second century - plus the early wicket of Michael Carberry - put the hosts in control as England finished the day on 8-1.

Ben Stokes starred for England finishing with 6-99 - his first Test five-for - as England look to avoid a 5-0 series whitewash.
