Sochi Paralympics: Kelly Gallagher overcomes nerves to win gold

County Down woman Kelly Gallagher says she had to battle hard to regain her spirits after a disappointing downhill performance on Saturday to clinch gold alongside guide Charlotte Evans at the Winter Paralympics in Sochi on Monday.

The duo's triumph in the visually impaired super-G clinched Britain's first ever Winter Paralympic gold medal.

"I'm so delighted because it's been such hard going," said Gallagher, 28, who has oculocutaneous albinism, a condition with affects the pigment in her hair, skin and eyes.

"We've been through so much together and it definitely hasn't sunk in yet," Gallagher told BBC Radio Ulster.
