IPC World Athletics: Jason Smyth to dash from Doha for new arrival
Irish Paralympic star Jason Smyth will return home straight after Saturday's T13 100m final at the IPC World Championships in Doha as his wife Elise is due to give birth to the couple's first child on Sunday.
That means Londonderry man Smyth, 28, will be unable to defend his 200m title later in the championships.
"A few hours after the 100m final, I'll be hopping on a flight out of here," said the visually impaired sprinter on Wednesday.
"Hopefully, when I get to the airport at home, there will not be a message on my phone saying that she is already in the hospital."
