Chelsea's Frank Lampard will fight for his England place

Frank Lampard insists he will fight for his place in the England squad after manager Fabio Capello warned senior players that their spot in the first team is not guaranteed.

The Chelsea midfielder, 33, was left out of the starting line-up in Friday's 3-0 victory over Bulgaria but played the first 73 minutes of their 1-0 win against Wales on Tuesday.

Lampard says he "expects competition" for places especially when "exciting" players such as Stewart Downing, 27, and Ashley Young, 26, are emerging through the ranks.
