Brian Barwick says football relies on television

Former Football Association chief executive Brian Barwick says football is reliant on television but stops short of saying it is too reliant on TV.

Barwick, who has also worked in the past for ITV and the BBC, is speaking in light of Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson's comments that "television is God" in modern football.

Ferguson has complained that television has too much power in the modern game, stating that "when you shake hands with the devil you have to pay the price".

The full interview with Sir Alex Ferguson will be shown on BBC North West Tonight, on BBC1 at 1830 BST, and available on iPlayer for those outside the region.
