Arsene Wenger defends decision to not start with Robin Van Persie

Arsene Wenger defends his decision to not start Robin van Persie against Stoke, despite the Dutchman coming off the bench to score twice and inspire the Gunners to a 3-1 win, external at the Emirates.

The Arsenal boss says it was a "risk" to give the striker a full 90 minutes as he needed rest, but admits his side are more "confident" when their skipper is playing.

Wenger says Arsenal still "have a lot to do" if they are to achieve success this season, but urges his side to "continue to improve and remain humble".
