Alan Shearer surprised by Fabio Capello resignation
Former England captain Alan Shearer says he is "shocked" and "amazed" by Fabio Capello's decision to resign as England manager and urges the Football Association to appoint an Englishman as his successor.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live, Shearer says he is surprised most by the timing of Capello's decision because he feels England have a really good chance of doing well at Euro 2012.
The former England striker says the departure of Capello will not really affect the players as they will want to play for their country whoever is in charge.
He also says Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is the leading candidate to replace the Italian, whose reign lasted just over four years.
