England candidates Roy Hodgson and Harry Redknapp assessed

BBC Sport's Patrick Gearey looks at Roy Hodgson's credentials after the FA announced they had approached West Brom for permission to speak to him regarding the vacant England manager's position.

West Brom manager Hodgson led Switzerland to the 1994 World Cup and Euro '96 as well as taking Fulham, external and Internazionale to Europa League and Uefa Cup finals in 2010 and 1997 respectively, but former Liverpool defender and BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson believes the Baggies boss is "second choice whatever the FA say".

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp had been the hot favourite for the role, last month describing speculation linking him with the job as "flattering".
