English football not ready for Rooney rule - Brendon Batson

FA consultant Brendon Batson explains why the 'Rooney rule' would be difficult to implement in English football and says he wants to concentrate on improving qualifications amongst black and ethnic minority coaches.

PFA coach educator Paul Davis says he wants to see the rule put in place as an important step to re-engage players coming to the end of their careers.

Both were speaking at the launch of Coach - a bursary scheme set up to help boost the qualifications of 49 black and ethnic minority coaches and help find them placements in professional clubs.

The Rooney Rule was established in American football in 2003 and requires NFL teams to interview one black or ethnic minority candidate for head coaching and senior football operation opportunities that become available.
