Newcastle boss Alan Pardew 'surprised' by Coloccini red card

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew says he expected his team to beat Liverpool after being 1-0 up at half-time and is "surprised" by Fabricio Coloccini's dismissal.

Coloccini was dismissed for a challenge on Luiz Suarez but Pardew said he will have to analyse the incident, as it appeared to be "out of character" for his captain to act in such a way.

The 1-1 draw at Anfield leaves Newcastle 10th in the Premier League.
