Joey Barton adopts French accent after Ligue 1 debut

Joey Barton speaks in a French accent after making his Ligue 1 debut in Marseille's 1-0 victory over Lille on Sunday.

Barton's post-match interview is similar to Steve McClaren's infamous quasi-Dutch news conference when he was manager of FC Twente in 2008.

Barton, who joined Marseille on loan from QPR in August, has defended his accent on his Twitter account, external after receiving criticism from his followers.

He wrote:, external "In my defence, it is very difficult to do a press conference in Scouse for a room full of French journalists. The alternative is to speak like an 'Allo Allo!' character. Its simply a case of you had to be there."
