Man United v Real Madrid: The best team lost - Mourinho

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho says "the best team lost" after his side knock Manchester United out of the Champions league with a 2-1 second leg victory at Old Trafford.

It looked bleak for Real when their defender Sergio Ramos turned Nani's cross into his own net shortly after half-time. But Nani was then controversially dismissed on 56 minutes for a high challenge on Alvaro Arbeloa and the Spanish side "played very well for 10 minutes", scoring twice in quick succession through Luka Modric and former United midfielder Cristiano Ronaldo.

Mourinho says it was "mentally not easy" for Ronaldo, who scored Real's second, to return to Old Trafford.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson did not speak to the press after the game, but Mourinho said his decision to leave Rooney out should not be questioned.
