Wigan 2-1 Newcastle: Alan Pardew dismayed by 'awful' tackle

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew says having defender Massadio Haidara go to hospital after an "awful" tackle is "a worse feeling than losing" 2-1 away at Wigan.

The French U-21 international was taken from the field following a tackle by Wigan's Callum McManaman that went unpunished by the referee.

Pardew's sense of "injustice" was compounded when Arouna Kone scored a late winner following a "handball". Earlier, Davide Santon had levelled following Jean Beausejour's first-half opener.

Despite the defeat, Newcastle edge above West Ham on goal difference to leave the Europa League quarter-finalists 13th in the Premier League.
