Suarez provided the latest twist in one of the summer's most protracted transfer sagas by going public on his desire to leave Anfield for a club in the Champions League.

Wherever the Uruguayan begins the new season, he will still have six games of a 10-match match ban to serve for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic during April's 2-2 draw between Liverpool and Chelsea.

That was the most recent controversy in the striker's career, following previous incidents including a World Cup handball, external and refusing to shake hands with Patrice Evra after being charged by the FA for abusing the Manchester United player.
