BBC Sport assesses the state of play in the Premier League ahead of the opening weekend of the new season.

The action gets under way on Saturday when Liverpool host Stoke City (12:45 BST), with Arsenal v Aston Villa, Norwich v Everton, Sunderland v Fulham, West Brom v Southampton and West Ham v Cardiff all kicking off at 15:00 BST.

Manchester United travel to Swansea for the Saturday evening kick-off (17:30 BST), while on Sunday Crystal Palace take on Tottenham (13:30 BST) and Chelsea face Hull (16:00).
