Alan Shearer says there is a lack of young English talent

Former England captain Alan Shearer says young English footballers have "too much too young" and lack desire, which is why they are failing to make the breakthrough at Premier League level.

English footballers now account for less than a third of all the minutes played in the Premier League, a State of the Game study for BBC Sport has found.

Shearer believes this is mainly due to managers having to think short term in order to achieve instant success, but also bemoans the lack of player apprenticeships which he says benefited him.
