Lack of young players 'a concern' - new PFA chairman Humphreys
The new chairman of the Professional Footballers' Association, Ritchie Humphreys, says the lack of young players making it to the top of the English game is "an area of concern", but says it is "difficult" to talk about introducing quotas on the number of foreign players.
Humphreys hailed Andros Townsend's career progression - which featured a number of spells on loan before breaking into the Tottenham and England first teams - as the model which young English players should follow, and says there has been an increase in players taking steps to plan for life after football.
The Chesterfield player, who played in the Premier League with Sheffield Wednesday before a 12-year spell at Hartlepool, succeeds Clarke Carlisle as chairman of the PFA.
